Michael V. Sweeney

I am a journalist and technical communicator.

Based in Evanston, Illinois, I translate complex scientific and technical subjects into clear, compelling stories across print, audio, video, and graphics.

He is a full-time communications staff member at the Office of Data Science Research at the University of Illinois, where he drafts, edits, and publishes professional communications on technical-heavy subjects. Previously, he served as News Editor and Audience Staff at The Daily Illini, where he aided in content strategy that doubled the Instagram following from 7k to 14.6k within three months.

Michael specializes in translating complex scientific and technical information into clear, compelling narratives. His work spans multimedia journalism — audio, video, print, and graphics — with a focus on the intersection of technology and policy. He has produced stories for Illinois Public Media (NPR), led newsroom operations at WPGU 107.1 FM, and covered government and breaking news as a freelance reporter for Evanston Now.
